January 2, 2024Community Corner: Technicians of the Future
February 12, 2024At Advantage Automotive, we believe in the power of preventive maintenance. We’ve identified four key areas in your vehicle that, when properly maintained, can save you from costly repairs down the line: the engine, brakes, radiator, and transmission.
Each of these systems consists of mechanical parts and fluids, both of which require regular attention to keep them running smoothly.
- Engine: Regular oil changes and tune-ups are essential for keeping your engine clean and operating at peak efficiency. It’s shocking how many damaged engines we see that could have been saved with a simple oil check. So, be sure to check your oil levels regularly, especially when embarking on long trips.
- Brakes: The braking system is another area where regular maintenance can prevent expensive, and potentially dangerous, failures. Brake fluid needs to be replaced periodically, as do the pads. Rotors also need attention, requiring machining and eventual replacement. Remember, brake failures can lead to collisions, so keeping this system in check is crucial for your safety.
- Radiator: Proper radiator care can prevent your vehicle from overheating, which can lead to serious damage such as cracked heads or engine blocks. This includes occasional fluid flushes and replacements, as well as checking and replacing hoses.
- Transmission: A transmission replacement can be one of the most expensive repairs for a vehicle. Regularly replacing or flushing the transmission fluid can keep your parts clean and operational, avoiding unnecessary costs.
Remember, driving your car naturally results in wear and tear, and introduces dirt and corrosives into your systems. But with a good maintenance plan, your vehicle can run smoothly for decades without encountering a major repair.
